Royal Mail Wins Princess Royal Training Award

17 August 2020

Here at Consalia, we provide award-winning programmes that Royal Mail has used and have won the Award through the help of Middlesex University and Consalia Sales Business School.

London, August 17 2020 – Royal Mail, a British multinational postal service and courier company, announced that they have won The Princess Royal Training Award, a prestigious award given to those who demonstrate a standard of excellence in the delivery of training against the industry Hallmarks, these being:

  1. Training/learning and development are integral to the organisation
  2. The programme is designed and delivered effectively and efficiently
  3. The programme has an impact on the success of the organisation and its people

Through the help from Consalia. This was built on the first UK undergraduate apprenticeship BSc Sales degrees for business-to-business salespeople launched in May 2018 by Consalia.

In the past, it had been a challenge to get sales teams to complete the online-based learning in working hours whilst they still have customers ringing or deadlines to meet. However, with the regular classroom-based session, the apprentices were much more motivated to finish their online work before seeing the tutors again where they could talk through any issues they had.

Stacey Firn, Royal Mail Account Manager of the Year said the programme “made me more ambitious. I've improved by 20% putting in place measures I've been learning at university”

Royal Mail recognised the need to upskill colleagues in its Sales Teams and develop a talent pipeline to meet the needs of the uncertain environment and a changing customer profile. It created the first Sales Professional integrated degree apprenticeship as a way of attracting younger sales talent. The inspiring programme has led other large employers, such as Amazon, to look at using similar models.

Programme Leader André Lahiff said:

The award is testimony to the hard work and dedication of all those involved, from the original trailblazer apprenticeship group, particularly our learning partners Consalia Sales Business School, Middlesex University, the Institute of Sales Professionals (ISP) and Huthwaite International.

This is a great recognition of the approach we are taking in the continued professionalisation journey of Sales, with the support of Royal Mails Sales leaders, Apprenticeship Programme teams and importantly the Sales Apprentices themselves who continually push the boundaries of learning and workplace practice to new heights – I am delighted HRH The Princess Royal has recognised the fantastic efforts made by our Sales Apprenticeship programme, in bestowing this award".

The Princess Award is only given to those companies that show the development of learning is an integral part of their organisation, designed and delivered the programme effectively and efficiently and proof that the organisation and its people have had a successful impact from this.

Consalia has created the very first Business to Business Sales professional Apprenticeship that integrates workplace learning with a BSc degree in Sales Professionalism. In 2019-20, Middlesex University had 74 student apprentices from Royal Mail and other employers studying on this programme. Consalia is a strong supporter of driving sales as a profession. The company takes an active role in industry bodies such as the Association of Professional Sales and has also been a founder of the International Journal of Sales Transformation. Our goal is to make Sales a highly desired and respected profession worldwide.

Consalia now offers two apprenticeship schemes:

  • Graduates of our three-year work-based degree programme will achieve a professional qualification in Sales (BSc B2B Sales) alongside their apprenticeship qualification as a B2B sales professional. Full details are here Degree Apprenticeships
